Saffron Sanchez

Saffron joined San Diego Ballet in 2023 as a trainee. 

She attended the Philippines premiere dance company Ballet Philippines as a child and performed in Peter Pan, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. Upon moving to the US in 2015, she trained in Pacific Ballet Conservatory in Aliso Viejo and stayed there for 7 years where she also attended their Summer Intensive programs for 4 years. 

Saffron also performed various roles in Pacific Theatre Ballet;s The Nutcracker including Clara, Snowflakes, Waltz of the Flowers and Arabian for 6 years. Last March 2023, she had the role of Aurora in their revised excerpt performance of Sleeping Beauty. In 2019 she was accepted to American Ballet Theater’s Texas program. She attended Joffrey Ballet Schools Summer Pre Professional Program in New York in 2021 and  Boston Ballet’s Senior Summer Intensive in 2022. In 2023 she attended San Diego Ballet’s Pre Professional Summer Program.

  • What ignited your passion for dance?

I started dance classes when I was 4 1/2 and what ignited my passion for dance was seeing my very first dance teacher dance the lead in Swan Lake in our country’s premiere ballet company Ballet Philippines. When I saw how beautiful and graceful she was, I knew it was what I wanted to do. 

  • What inspired you to pursue a professional career in dance?

She was also my inspiration to pursue a professional career in dance. 

  • What is your favorite thing about being a dancer? 

My favorite thing about being a dancer is being able to express myself, grow and meet new people. 

  • What is your biggest dream for your dance career?

My biggest dream is to dance on different stages around the world.

  • When you’re not pirouetting and perfecting your plies, what brings you joy?

 In my free time, I like to go to concerts, spend time with friends, explore and try new  things.

  • What is the most transformative experience you’ve had as a dancer?

The most transformative experience I’ve had as a dancer was the difference in training between the USA and the Philippines.

  • What is your favorite ballet?

Giselle.

  • What is your favorite role, and what is a role you would like to perform in the future?

 I would love to dance as Giselle in the future. 

  • What is your favorite local spot in San Diego?

My favorite local spot in San Diego is Garden Coffee in Old Town. It’s my favorite coffee shop and such a cute place!
