Elena Díaz Flores

Elena joined San Diego Ballet in 2022 and has performed roles  in Bird Land,  The Four Seasons , Giselle, The Jungle Book,  The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Viva Vivaldi, Stabat Mater,  Eight to the Barre and Sleeping Beauty. Elena started dancing when she was a child and it was at the age of 13 that she began her professional education in Superior School of Music and Dance of Monterrey ( Bachelor of Classical Dance ). She took part in multiple workshops to polish and perfect her technique in the US, Mexico and Cuba. She was trained by different recognized international teachers.

  • What ignited your passion for dance?

When I was a little kid my mom took me to watch The Nutcracker and it was such a magical moment, since then I loved dance.

  • What inspired you to pursue a professional career in dance?

After many years of ballet as a kid I always had a lot of discipline and as I got older I realized that I truly wanted to perfect my technique which eventually would make me a great dancer.

  • What is your favorite thing about being a dancer?

Being able to do what I love everyday.

  • What is your biggest dream for your dance career?

Being able to travel the world because of dance and share my knowledge.

  • When you’re not pirouetting and practicing your plie’s, what brings you joy?

Traveling around the world, the sunsets and quality time with family and friends.

  • What is the most transformative experience you’ve had as a dancer?

Having to cover someone’s spot right before the show started, I was able to prove  to myself what I’m capable of.

  • What is your favorite ballet? 

Swan Lake.

  • What is your favorite role you have performed at San Diego Ballet and what is a role you would like to perform in the future?

The White Cat in Sleeping Beauty and I’d love to be Odette.

  • What is your favorite local spot in San Diego?

Sunset Cliffs.
