Joseph Lister embarked on their dance journey at California State University, Channel Islands at age 19. During their time there, they founded and led Breaking Pointe, CI’s inaugural dance team. Later, Joseph transferred to the University of California, Riverside, earning a Bachelors of Arts in Dance in 2015. While at UCR, they were honored with the GLUCK fellowship award and the Chancellors Performance Award. As an apprentice for Lula Washington Dance Theatre in 2013, Joseph attended their Professional Development Program. They also assisted in choreography for MSJC’s production of Pippin under the guidance of Lori Torok. Post-graduation, Joseph had the opportunity to dance with No) One Art House during a residency in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Additionally, they completed a summer course at Voronezh Ballet School in Russia, receiving a certificate for their accomplishment in character folk dance intensive. Currently, Joseph is an active dancer with Malashock and San Diego Ballet, while also serving as the Artistic Director of CalliOpus Contemporary Dance in Temecula.
