More about Sarah…

Who influenced you most to become the dancer you are today?

My professors at the University of Utah, who pushed me artistically as well as technically, and my parents, who have always been supportive of my ballet career.

What was the funniest episode you’ve experienced in your career?

When I was in school, I was performing a part in The Nutcracker that required me to do some difficult turns at the end. I was really struggling with them in rehearsal, and during the first show, I nailed the turns, and I was so relieved that I ran offstage into a light pole. Not one of my most graceful moments.

Who would you most like to share the stage with and why?

I’ve been watching a lot of videos of New York City Ballet lately, and I find Sara Mearns to be a really inspiring dancer, because she has a really unique brand of artistry. I would love to share the stage with her.

What goes through your mind just before you perform?

I usually get very excited and a little nervous, and I try to tell myself to enjoy it because performing is such a special experience.

What do you like/admire most about San Diego Ballet?

I’m excited to be a part of a dynamic company that performs a mix of classical and contemporary work. I think it will be a fun challenge and I’m looking forward to my first season!
