So many Nutcracker stories. So little time. The beloved score is everywhere during the holiday season. Our audiences fall into two camps. Those for whom the piece is a tradition, that sometimes goes back to their childhood. And those who are seeing it for the first time. And the secret of the piece is that it is a charmer. It doesn’t have the grandeur of SLEEPING BEAUTY or the tragic drama of SWAN LAKE, but when done right, it has such an accessibility into the beauty of dance that is unsurpassed. It IS a intergenerational show, where professional dancers mix with ballet students. Some of whom are venturing onstage for the first time. And the energy of the hopes and efforts of those young dancers is palpable. More than anything, the show is just fun! Whether you come to see the “terrifying Battle” between toy soldiers and a legion of rats or the Sugarplum Fairy’s exquisite variation or the sinuously, acrobatic Arabian pas de de deux, the whole thing comes together to put a smile on your face
